What’s More Important: Security or… Skiing?

While 278 passengers on board from Amsterdam to New York were about to go to the place nobody ever returned from, his Majesty, National Counterterrorism Czar, Michael Leiter decided not to go to a bit closer destination: Washington DC. The reason was utterly important: the ski slopes were so long and steep, his Majesty was unable to reach the lodge before his vacation was over. And now, when the passengers are miraculously safe, he’s back to us. And we, as always, are at his service. Well, it has been always common to say: he is at our service. But does it really matter? Everybody can say anything. But when the people are in the air at the mercy of a terrorist, the very guy who is paid by us to make sure this doesn’t happen finds the skiing more attractive than interfering in the dirty business. And after all, who doesn’t? I also like skiing more than fighting thugs. But am I paid by you a luxurious salary for such a fight? Nope. But since the administration considers us reach for the mere fact that we prefer working rather than spending all our life on the welfare, we are supposed to pay those guys’ skiing resorts at the expense of their duty, aren’t we?
